I was asked about updating an Arkanoid clone for an arcade machine. The game used Unity so I wasn't greatly inclined to help. On top of that the sprites were taken from Arkanoid so those would need to be replaced. I did decide to try to run it to see what it was like. It didn't run right away and I had spent enough time.
The person came back with a godot project he thought might be a good base. My initial thought was that it was incredibly ugly. I thought it was missing powerups as well but eventually found out those were there.
I searched around and found a great tutorial by noway for building an Arkanoid clone in Love. I added two player support and the laser powerup. Thus Fracturoid was born. I'll probably write an open game source article on it when I get a chance.
(In case I've never mentioned it, I hate Breakout/Arkanoid games but it was fun to modify.)
