Found this quite interesting new digital audio workstation project today:
https://github.com/stargateaudio/stargate
And I found one of their design principles to be really interesting:
Projects should be completely portable from one computer to another
This facilitates great collaboration. For example, 3 internet friends in Africa, USA and China could pass a project to each other around the clock, each one adding their own unique spin to the project each day.
Any user should be able to zip/tar/whatever a project folder up, send it to another computer, even if it has a different operating system or different CPU architecture, and have the same experience.
One of the major headaches of FOSS audio development is the lack of "sources" and portability of those sources due to the dependency on various VST plugins.
So it seems this DAW is designed to avoid these issues all together.
I can't really comment on the quality of the DAW itself as I can't claim to be a musician, but I hope someone with more skills can try it out and let us know 😉
