1zpc You can do it. As you said, it's not hard. To make 2D graphics, I mostly use programs called GIMP and Inkscape.
If you're looking to recruit an artist, you may want to provide some more information about the project in terms of genre, theme and style. And since you asked here, can we at least assume the project will be free software?
