Retireing of the Wordpress based Planet

It was mentioned before, but our Wordpress based Planet continues to be a PITA to maintain and add RSS sources to. In addition, it is a significant security issue, and someone tried to hack it this week after some serious Wordpress issue was not patched quickly enough (yes we do run the auto-updater).

So this is the final drop in the bucket so to say.

We restored everything from an 3 day old backup and updated everything immediately, so hopefully it will be ok for now, but our timeline to retire this Wordpress based planet got accelerated by a lot.

I actually never visit the planets. But I guess there's other good and open-source software for them.

For me, a sometimes a bit dump person: The planets are RSS feeds, right? And that means you could spread them via the fediverse, rigth?

A planet is a blog feed aggregator. It usually works via RSS behind the scenes, yes.

Looks like there is yet another critical Wordpress vulnerability being exploited in the wild 😱

I turned off the planet for the time being. Too risky to have it hacked again.
