The OnFOSS / Libregaming.org community had some fun playing OpenSpades, but in its current form it still has some proprietary assets and no real nice way to make new levels other than the ones auto-generated by the open-source Piqueserver Edit: and also SpadesX.
So one of the suggestions was to team up and work on a fully libre version and maybe improve the tooling. There is already a "LibreSpades" repo on codeberg, with all the non-Free assets removed. But it would be probably good if the changes could be pushed back upstream once everything works.
The main problem right now is that the tooling is also non-Free and windows only. It uses some old model format called VXL/KV6 and some really crufty editor called SLAB6. There is also a terrain editor called Terravox on which the auto-map generation of Pique is probably based.
However the light on the tunnel is that the really nice Goxel editor has some half-finished support for this model format.
So it would be really nice if we could find someone with C / C++ skills to fix the Goxel support for OpenSpades.
