dulsi I was watching a history of arcade games. (Well I had it running in the background at least.) It talked about cute em ups. I had never heard of the term. Many of the games they mentioned didn't make it to the USA it seems. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CuteEmUp I've wondered about what to do with graphics in Shippy 1984. I wonder if a cute style might make it stand out more. Are there any cute em up open source games?
Technopeasant dulsi https://libregamewiki.org/Category:Anime_and_manga_games Is the best I can come up with.
TPW Don't know any FLOSS-Cute'm ups, but I'm a big fan of Parodius and Twinkle Star Sprite (which has a ingenius game design - some Touhou-Games copied it). Mentioning Touhou: The closest thing to a Open-Source cute em up I do know of is a Touhou-Clone named Taisei: https://taisei-project.org/
dulsi Cute is just not my style. I decided to mockup a Shippy 1984 screen. I envisioned two female pilots bantering back and forth before the round starts. Ideally with voice audio. Unfortunately making a cute alien is just not my strength. https://opengameart.org/content/shmup-ships https://opengameart.org/content/purple-space-ship https://opengameart.org/content/pixel-art-portraits
Peter Looks cool. Looks quite bunny-like to me. To make it even more bun-like you could split the front teeth and perhaps flap the ears not so deep.
Modanung That is clearly not a dog. More like "What's up, dog?". If that's not a hare or rabbit, it can only be a kangaroo.
dulsi Would a duck work as the last enemy? It flaps it's wings for animation. (Yes this is it running in Shippy 1984 not a mockup.)
dulsi Modanung I debated asking because I knew I'd probably pronounce it wrong. But I'd probably still screw it up after asking.
