Although nobody here will have a use for Unity-specific particle effects, don't let that stop you from making them: Experience is transcendental. Instead, learning about free software is what should make you stop working with Unity. :)
I see you also use Blender. That's enough for me to invite you aboard. Certainly could use a hand with all these projects. I'm also working on a harmonic/polynomial-based particle system you might like to play around with at some point, but it's not quite production-ready yet.
