For now I experienced the usual “run the executable, apt-get install gambas bit-by-bit as it complains packages are missing, only to discover your gambas version does not work”.

It is a pity because I like your games!

Developed on Arch Linux, previously Fedora.

I kinda hope someone makes a Gambas 3 Flatpak.

If it is because your packaged runtime is out of date, try launching from the IDE (if installed). I find that skips the version check, even if older than what I used.

Worst comes to worst I will upload a build on an older Gambas from another machine I have.

Technopeasant I did in fact run it through the IDE, so that might well be the difference between me and ffaf.

I built the executable from 3.19.3. What versions do you have?

So on Stable (Bookworm) the version is 3.18.0. So yeah, damn sure that is the problem.

I'm not sure, but I think the following commands help to get new packages on Debian:

sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt update

It takes some time to execute but it is a simple thing.

Peter Correct commands, but update is ran first. It updates the package index, based on which upgrade applies changes.

So I have been informed there is a project option to let you force an older runtime version, so I will be using that flag going forward.

Finally got around to play it. There is thought in the game and I like that it tries to convey a message without relying on words or cutscenes (which is common in indie game).

The mix of happy songs, comrades getting shot down by enemy machine guns and the many endings (getting hit by a sniper, executed for cowardice), the fact that if you survive 1914 then there is only 1915 for you, many things done well.

I would place the controls instructions ingame, I think it is customary today.
