ffaf Peter At risk of hijacking this thread, I had similar experiences with compiling lately. Usually I write a line or to two devs to gently point them at lacking doucmentation or extremely specific dependencies. Sometimes, it works in getting more streamlined compiling process.
Peter Good idea (if it is done politely and not demanding). I think I will do that, too, in the future.
Technopeasant Peter This is where Flatpacks can help, though I understand their downsides. Or I just Wine the Windows version when I can't be bothered.
Peter Update again: Now I'm into point & click adventures (unfortunately most of them are unfree): Some from the list of Sludge. And I won in a sort of internet tombola "Edna and Harvey: Harvey's new eyes." I also downloaded demos of "Majesty" and "Knights" (strategy games). So did anyone of you get some game as a x-mas present?
Technopeasant Was pleasantly surprised by this forgotten Pygame gem. https://libregamewiki.org/Adventures_on_Planet_Zephulor
ffaf Tried to play that, but it is python2, right? Debian axed python2 on stable! edit: used wine to play a bit, comfy platformer, good for kids!
Technopeasant Yeah, I also used Wine as Fedora got rid of pygame for Python 2. It worked fine aside from a few crashes, which was mitigated by the quicksave function. It reminds me a lot of the sort of platform games I played using Micromedia Shockwave as a kid.
Technopeasant Finally got around to finishing off the Quake II mission packs. Now I am going to re-play Shogo using dgvoodoo2.
Technopeasant Finished Shogo. I was planning to round out the single player Quake games with IV, but there seems to be some interesting movements in the creation of a source port so I am waiting to see how that lands rather than just getting the old binary running. https://quake.fandom.com/wiki/Source_port#Quake_4 Might round off the original Doom games by playing Doom 64 with Doom64Ex+.
