While I love the complex character creation and world generation of ToME and Cataclysm, I found out (again) why I don't like roguelikes: Permadeath! :(
I saved a game in Cataclysm but after dying the game-save was gone! That's bad!

Still playing 0 A.D. and it is fun. I always loose but it is fun nontheless.

Haven't decided yet which is my favorite civilization, but the Romans are a good candidate.

I read a website which gives playing hints.

I can really recommend 0 A.D.

I also replayed Battle for Wesnoth. Too much text thrown at the player for my taste. But if you don't mind that, you get a really good tactics and strategy game. To suceed in this game you have to think a bit and apply lessons learned.

Peter Quite frankly I skip most of the text in Wesnoth.

There are a few campaigns that are worth playing for the story and dialogue though, Ooze mini campaign and its sequel, Elvish Dynasty.

I kinda wish RTS games had a freeform "assault mode" where the AI just tries to slow you down rather than come in and wreck your base. Especially since most campaign missons work like this anyway.

So got a bit bogged down in the middle portion of episode two in Blasphemer, which is a bit too big and complicated for its own good. I ended up using no-clip at one point after I couldn't figure out the switch combination to release the green key even after watching a playthrough on YouTube.

So yeah, the second episode of Blasphemer is frankly not worth playing. The last few levels are just really tedious slaughter maps.

First three levels of episode three are better. Level four has over 300 enemies, so I will see how tedious it is

EDIT: it is indeed a little tedious, but at least paced beyond just having hoards in every room. The next level has only one third the enemies though, so they should at least move it later in the episode. I also assume the final switch is supposed to lower the exit teleporter, and it did not, so I just used noclip.

Just finished Blasphemer 0.1.8. Due to my issues with the second episode, Freedoom is still my favourite libre first person shooter, but I did overall enjoy my time with this and look forward to how it shapes up in later releases.

Just finished the first episode of Freaks! 2002, a remake of a very obscure 1993 Wolfenstein clone from Spain.

Won Freaks! a few days later. Two other games I have completed fairly recently have been Gloom through the ZGloom source port that brings it to modern operating systems from the Amiga (released in 2020, after the source code came out in 2017), and the Build engine based DOS version of Powerslave via BuildGDX (not to be confused with the remaster based on the console versions, of which the earlier Powerslave EX source code was released).

Oh, and I did actually complete Doom 64 awhile ago. Thinking of playing through The Original Strife: Veteran Edition next.

I discovered LibreMage on the libregame wiki. Thanks to the author Drummyfish for the game, and to the many contributors of the wiki for all the game infos.

My first impression: LibreMage seems easy to learn but tough to solve. :) I made it only to the third level so far. Phew!
