Elouin Hello, Kat came up with an idea for a new LibreJam. Its all ASCII this time. For more Info see the Jamgaroo Page.
Technopeasant Been trying to find some CC/GPL ASCII art for people to sample. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:ASCII_art https://sosnowkadub.de/space/ https://www.gnu.org/graphics/graphics.en.html https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/ASCII_art/Examples https://opengameart.org/content/ascii-art-dungeon-crawler-wallsitems https://github.com/asciimoth/3a_storage Honestly a little disappointed in the options. The problem is many classic pieces of ASCII art were released without any kind of licensing in mind. See: https://asciiart.website/ https://www.asciiart.eu/ https://ascii.co.uk/ http://www.ascii-art.de/ This is an interesting tool though. https://kirilllive.github.io/ASCII_Art_Paint/
Technopeasant I played around with converting line art to ASCII using that ASCII Art Paint program but in the end settled on a minimalist style that helps preserve screen space since my game draft is single screen. I will be posting my ASCII set on Opengameart when the game is done.
Elouin Modanung You could create a small terminal game where you have to type words with the controller. Edit: worst -> words
Modanung Elouin Why worst? It did strike me that a terminal version would of course be most versatile and tiny.
Modanung Elouin Ah, hehe. Yes, so basically terminal TypeFighter. I was thinking players fire their letterlasers at incoming A-to-the-Z-Wings (words). ...led by Fluke Skywriter.
Technopeasant I wasn't quite firing on all cylinders this month so I did not finish my game. I was going to do a limited version, but a late bug emerged that broke it that I haven't untangled yet. EDIT: oh wait, I now have until the 14th. We will see.
Technopeasant So it turns out I broke the resource collection while removing some last minute cruft. Too late to change my submission, but here is the corrected version to play. http://icculus.org/piga/Files/LibreJam/ASCIIlization-0.5.1.tar.gz A terminal based hotseat multiplayer turn-based strategy game for LibreJam June 2023. "Currently only training units and collecting resources is finished, so players instead compete for the higher score by harvesting resources and upgrading units. Units are assigned various tools to be used on different items." https://pigalore.miraheze.org/wiki/ASCIIlization
Technopeasant This was the reason I opted to do it turn-based, to not overrun the buffer. Coincidentally this video also came out this week:
